LEWISDALE, Md. (CBSDC) — Prince George’s County Police arrested 25-year-old Charles Amofa for the kidnapping and sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in Lewisdale.
Authorities say on Monday afternoon Amofa, of Chillum, lured the girl outside of the Value Village Thrift Store on University Blvd. by telling her he knew her father and had a toy to give her.
Once outside, the suspect kidnapped the girl, and took her to a park about a quarter mile away from the thrift store. He sexually assaulted the girl near the swing set at the park.
The girl was only separated from her father inside the store for a matter of moments.
Her father notified police that she was missing and was able to provide a description of his daughter along with a cell phone image.
Less than a half hour after the abduction, officer Fredys Castro-Rivas, a six-year veteran of the force, spotted the girl and rushed her aside. Amofa attempted to walk away from the scene, but was apprehended.
Once in police custody he confessed to the similar sexual assault of another 8-year-old girl on July 9. Amofa allegedly took the girl to a vacant building before she was able to get away.
Investigators said they were having a difficult time finding witnesses in that case due to the remote location of the building.
Amofa has been charged with kidnapping, first and second degree sexual offense, second degree assault and child abuse in connection to the abduction and assault of the young girl from the thrift store.
Police also charged him with kidnapping, fourth degree sexual offense and child abuse in connection to the abduction of the 8-year-old victim.
