WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — There’s a disease you’ve probably never heard of that affects newborns. Doctors are now recruiting for two clinical trials in hopes of find a cure for Tuberos Sclerosis Complex.
TSC is a genetic disorder that causes tumors in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, lungs and other organs.
It affects some people severely, while others are so mildly affected that it often goes undiagnosed.
Experts estimate at least two children are born with TSC each day. There are approximately 50,000 people with the disease living in the United States.
The disease develops from a genetic mutation and produces non-cancerous but still potentially deadly tumors in the body’s organs.
