MANASSAS, Va. (CBSDC) — A 21-year-old Oakton man wrecked his car and proceeded to jump onto the windshields of four passing vehicles in a wild incident on Interstate 66 on Monday night.
Police say a Honda driven by Corbin G. Shannon was stopped on the right shoulder when it suddenly swerved into oncoming traffic, striking a passing cargo near westbound mile marker 47 around 6:15 p.m. The Honda wound up smashing into a jersey wall.
As the driver of the van approached the Honda, Shannon burst out of his car and jumped onto four oncoming vehicles. He smashed the windshield of the first car he landed on according to InsideNova.com.
Police arrived on the scene a few moments later and found Shannon standing on the left shoulder of the interstate.
He was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital and kept overnight for observation.
Authorities say drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
The bizarre incident shut down the westbound traffic on the interstate for nearly 30 minutes during rush hour.
Authorities have charged Shannon with a number of crimes including reckless driving and destruction of property.
Shannon’s wreck was the second of two bizarre accidents in the DC area in as many days. On Sunday a Maryland man was killed after a buzzard flew into the path of his motorcycle in Upper Marlboro.
