CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. (CBSDC) — A fight between to female students at Fairmont Heights High School in Capitol Heights ended with one student stabbed and both girls facing assault charges.

Prince George’s County school officials says the stabbing occurred around 9 a.m. Friday. Police believe the altercation may have been the result of comments posted on Twitter regarding a wig.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical, but stable condition. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The girl who used the knife in the fight has been charged with 1st Degree Assault. The stabbing victim is facing 2nd Degree Assault charges.

The school campus was placed on lockdown following the incident. Parents were notified by the schools emergency alert system, which reportedly worked well.
