WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — President Barack Obama is meeting with about 25 wealthy donors who each contributed $35,800 to his re-election effort.

The event is at the upscale Jefferson Hotel near the White House.

Obama has been attending fundraisers on a weekly basis, either in Washington or in donor-heavy cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco or Miami. He is scheduled to attend fundraisers in New York City later this week.

The president’s appearance Monday was closed to the media. The per-donor contribution of $35,800 is the maximum allowed by law.

The proceeds of the fundraiser are split between Obama’s re-election campaign and the Democratic Party.

As of the end of January, Obama had raised about $250 million for his re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee so far in this election cycle.

While the president’s re-election campaign grows financially, so too is his popularity among women voters. A recent poll suggests women give Obama more credit for the country’s economic turnaround.
