PHILADELPHIA (CBSDC/AP) — The daughter of GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum was hospitalized near his home in Virginia, not in Philadelphia, as originally reported.
In a statement Tuesday, campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley said the family decided on a local hospital after a news release went out about 3-year-old Bella. She is recovering from pneumonia.
The release said Bella was admitted to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia on Saturday. But Gidley now says the Santorums ended up taking her to a hospital in Virginia.
Gidley says the release was later corrected on the campaign website. Gidley didn’t specify the hospital.
Philadelphia hospital spokeswoman Rachel Salis-Silverman says staff could not disclose whether Bella was a patient without family consent.
Bella has a genetic condition and was not expected to live past her first birthday.
The 53-year-old Rick Santorum was born in Winchester, Va.
