The Capitals came in losers of two in a row and about to hit the road for three.  As Bruce Boudreau said, it would’ve been a tough pill to swallow if they didn’t come away with any points.  Well they got two tonight as the Caps beat the Thrashers 4-3 in overtime.

The Caps came back from one goal deficit’s twice and even took the lead late in the third to lose it 32.9 seconds remaining but pulled it out.  Alexander Semin had his fourth career hat trick and Mathieu Perreault, who was called up from Hershey today, had two assists while anchoring the 2nd line and said he’s never played with Semin before.  Tomas Fleischmann score the game winner on a self described “lucky” goal as he was just whacking at the puck 1:37 into overtime.  Michal Neuvirth had another solid game stopping 29 of 32, he didn’t get much help on two of the goals and the third was just a great shot by Evander Kane, who had two goals tonight, hitting the puck out of mid-air and in.  Coach Boudreau said Neuvirth kept them in it as they were being out shot 21-6 at one point…then they out shot the Thrashers 38-11 and keeping Thrashers goalie Chris Mason on his feet.

Semyon Varlamov was the first one off the ice this morning at practice, but Michal Neuvirth said he knew yesterday that he would start today.  Goalie Dany Sabourin was called up before the game to back up Neuvirth and Varlamov is day to day.  Defenseman Tom Poti couldn’t go tonight because he is sore/hurt so the Caps had to play Mike Green who isn’t 100 percent.  Green only played on the power play and the Caps rotated 5 defenseman the rest of the game.  The Caps now get three days off to get healthy and head Carolina to play their southeast division rival next Wednesday.  Check out what Bruce Boudreau, Mathieu Perreault, Tomas Fleischmann, Michal Neuvirth and John Erskine had to say following this big win….
