This free festival is an annual event which celebrates Latino culture and offers a smorgasbord of delights with a colorful parade of nations, international cuisine, arts and crafts, a children’s festival, science fair and more. The celebration, which stretches along portions of Pennsylvania Avenue, brings together every segment of society including community leaders, businesses from the corporate and private sectors, non-profit organizations and, of course, you.

Pull out the black tie and evening gown. This year will mark the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s (CHCI) 36th Annual Gala Awards — the crowning event of the institute’s festivities celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The evening includes recognition of the efforts and achievements of leaders within the Latino community amidst a backdrop of musical entertainment, and appearances and commentary from today’s leading public figures. CHCI’s highest honors of the night are the Chair’s Award and the CHCI Medallion of Excellence. The gala is considered the most prestigious gathering of Hispanic nonpartisan leaders in the nation. President Obama and the First Lady have attended the event four times and have been invited to attend this year.

Bring the entire family to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and learn about the many contributions that Latin America has made to the advancement of aviation and space exploration. The Innovators In Air & Space: Heritage Family Day Series helps to bring science to life as visitors will have the unique opportunity to meet Hispanic scientists and engineers who are currently practicing in the industry, and enjoy bilingual stories about science and space, as well as engage in entertaining hands-on activities. It allows young children to start thinking about science and space early on and even visualize a future for themselves in the field. Family day is presented in collaboration with the Smithsonian Latino Center which works with the Smithsonian and nearly 200 nationwide affiliates to ensure that Latino culture, achievement and contributions to the arts, sciences and humanities are celebrated and recognized.
