Best Veterans Day Events In Washington DC

America’s veterans stood strong around the world, sacrificing their safety and well-being to protect the nation and its interests. This Veterans Day, let’s stand strong in the support and celebration of our military heroes. Here are a few special events where we can do just that.

Veterans Day 10K & Fun Walk

Come on out and stretch your legs to show support for America’s veterans by participating in this fun and invigorating walk. The certified 10K course is flat and fast and follows Ohio Drive around Hains Point. At the two- and four-mile marks, water stations will keep runners refreshed to help them make it to the finish line. However, if a 10K run isn’t your cup of tea, there will also be a Tidal Basin walk (Fun Walk) directly after the 10K begins. Walkers will circle the Tidal Basin on a scenic 2.25-mile course that passes the Jefferson and FDR Memorials.

This family-friendly parade is sure to conjure that “hometown,” close-knit community feel as it pays tribute to our veterans. Break out your miniature American flags, line the streets and shout out your loudest cheers for the men and women of the Armed Forces. Enjoy moving military formations, marching bands, motorcades of all types, as well as representation from area farmers, clubs and businesses—all in support of our veterans. It’s sure to be an entertaining and feel-good event.

Enjoy the crisp autumn air as you traverse the picturesque trails and meadows of 982-acre Rosaryville State Park during this exhilarating 50K to honor veterans. The trail is complete with two aid stations approximately 4.5 miles apart and a bag drop. Test your wits and endurance while you have some fun in the great outdoors.

The city of Harrisonburg will honor the nation’s veterans in a patriotic Main Street parade. All eyes will focus on local veterans groups who will be featured front and center on floats. Included in the lineup will be the Harrisonburg High School Marching Band and JROTC, Boy Scout Troops, military convoys and civic organizations. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Following the parade, the Harrisonburg High School Symphonic Band and Honors Choir will put on a performance at Memorial Hall.

This 5th annual parade will pay special tribute to all Desert Shield and Storm veterans. In a break from past parades, which featured five separate marshals to represent each of the Armed Services, this year’s event will be presided over by a single Grand Marshal—a decorated, local enlisted, non-career veteran by the name of Mr. Joseph Ortiz. It is a distinct and great honor for one of our local heroes.
