Whole Foods Market

4420 Willard Avenue
Chevy Chase, Maryland 20815

This brand new Chevy Chase Whole Foods Market, the one across the street from MAC, BCBG and Bloomingdales, is a state of the art market superstore with wider isles and made-to-order burger and pasta bars. It’s clean, it’s beautiful. A portion of underground parking is validated and this is the first grocery store I’ve seen with that one, uniform line setup similar to that of a bank. One would think this would cause grocery store line backup…quite the opposite. I have never moved so quickly through grocery store check out, not even through a self-checkout line. I hear you can churn fresh almond butter in the store and actually customize your own trail mix. Parents: during your visit to pick up groceries for the week, then grab a bite from the hot bar from the great selection of prepared foods including salads, a variety of beans, rice and chicken and then sit down in their lager-than-usual café to enjoy.

The introduction of the kids menu was a great move by Chipotle. Their ingredients really ARE fresh…and fast. The menu a few variations of your regular selections with a side of chips and a choice of juice or organic milk. Some selections come with a side of their yummy cilantro-lime rice and black beans. The meals are the perfect size for small tummies and, no matter what your dietary need, chipotle actually has plenty of options. If your little guys are highly sensitive to certain foods, servers at Chipotle are actually happy to change their gloves before preparing your order…just ask!

The Dutch Village Farmers Market

Marlboro Village Shopping Center
5030 Brown Station Road
Upper Marlboro, Maryland

Described by one patron as a “completely high fructose corn syrup free zone”, different Amish and Mennonite vendors make up the Dutch Village Farmer’s Market, the second branch of two Amish markets in the Washington Metro area (more exist throughout Maryland). The reviews of this place will at least have you curious (and drooling), with all of it’s fresh baked pies and mouthwatering breads and warm family-like service and all of heaven and all that. Farmers are from Lancaster, PA and sell fresh produce, meats free of antibiotics and bread, baked fresh daily. Stock up on your groceries, then grab a bite in their eatery.

Austin Grill

919 Ellsworth Drive
Silver Spring, MD 20910

Austin Grill is a great place to get Tex-Mex with the kids, especially at the Silver Spring location on Tuesday nights during which John Henry England, a three-piece band catering to kids, plays from 5-8pm. A favorite on the menu is the grilled corn on the cob and kids eat free every Tuesday with one adult entrée purchased. All kids meals are served with a side, which includes a pretty healthy selection of veggies – from carrots to rice and beans.

PF Chang’s China Bistro

Friendship Height
5406 Wisconsin Ave, Suite B
Chevy Chase, MD 20815

In 2009 the beloved Asian cuisine staple added kids’ selections to the menu, giving families more menu options other than the side of fries or Mac n Cheese. Six menu options make it easy, two of them colorful vegetarian versions of adult-sized feasts. The claimed kids’ #1favorite, the “Kid’s Honey Chicken”, is a more sophisticated, tasty version of the hackneyed chicken strip, as they are lightly battered with a hint of ginger and juicy with a soy / honey dipping sauce. Get the Baby Buddha’s Feast, which includes steamed snap peas, carrots and broccoli. Put a twist on the regular kids mixed vegetables side dish with the Baby Buddha’s Feast stir-fried. Yum!
