Located in the center of canopy trees and celebrated art sculptures, the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink is the most picturesque place to skate in D.C. Listen to tunes as you skate around the open-air rink, marvel at the beautiful museums located nearby, or sit on a bench and watch everyone skate by. Warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee, and grab a snack at the Pavilion Cafe. The ice rink offers both group and private skating lessons as well.

If you prefer to skate indoors, head over to the Fort Dupont Ice Skating Rink where you will enjoy pickup hockey games, warm beverages and snacks, and plenty of kids. That’s because the non-profit ice skating rink provides free or subsidized skating programs to disadvantaged D.C. children. The Kids on Ice program not only teaches children how to ice skate but how to synchronized, figure and speed skate while it encourages them to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Open to the public, the Fort Dupont Ice Skating Rink also offers adult ice skating lessons, clinics and hockey leagues. The facility is also available for birthdays, holiday parties and other special events.

Home of the Washington Capitals, the Kettler Capitals Iceplex features two NHL regulation-sized ice rinks, four locker rooms, a Capitals team store and professional skate shop, and a concession stand. Sign up for skating lessons, play a game of broomball, or join a hockey team. The facility also features family friendly events including pick-up hockey and a fun zone where children ages 2 to 8 may play with foam pucks and beanie babies. Wednesday nights feature adults-only skating, perfect for date night. Or stop by and watch the Capitals practice as practices are free and open to the public. Breathe in the crisp autumn air as you twirl around this lovely outdoor ice rink. Located amidst shops and restaurants, the Pentagon Row Ice Rink features charming city lights, snow machines and a Skate Shack where you will find plenty of seating and lockers. Open every day until March 18, the facility also offers extended hours during the holidays and winter break. Host a birthday party at the rink and enjoy a free 25-minute ice-skating lesson. Private skating lessons and season passes are also available. Weeknights are the best time to visit this popular wintertime destination.

The facility also offers skating classes and private lessons and features a warming room, professional skate shop, concession stand and even a fitness center.
