‘Tis the season to be jolly. The holidays are here and Christmas songs are filling the airwaves and your local shopping center. If you’re looking for a place to fa-la-la in DC, then consider these locations to help spread the holiday cheer.

A DC tradition for more than 90 years, the Holiday on the Ellipse event features a variety of interactive holiday activities including caroling and sing-alongs, Santa’s workshop and the Pathway of Peace. Join locally and nationally known performers as they spread holiday cheer throughout the Ellipse with popular holiday tunes. Watch the lighting of the national Christmas tree and view hand-crafted ornaments from all 50 states plus U.S. territories and the District. The Holiday on the Ellipse also features holiday-themed events and nightly entertainment from well-known celebrities. The 2012 holiday event featured James Taylor, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillet and others. Events take place throughout December so plan accordingly.

An annual favorite, the Kennedy Center will host the Washington Chorus as it performs a Candlelight Christmas, a unique musical experience featuring a variety of orchestra instruments and a 200-voice choir. A Grammy award winner, the Washington Chorus is well-known for its critically-acclaimed performances and choral repertoire. The production features all of your favorite Christmas classics and sing-alongs as well as theatrical lighting and a candlelight processional. Enjoy the sounds of the harp, organ, percussion, organ and brass among many others. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets early as these concerts tend to sell out quickly.

US Navy Band Holiday Concert

Usher in the holiday season with the sights and sounds of the U.S. Navy Band. This year’s caroling concert and sing-along features the holiday musical styling of the Commodores, Concert Band, Country Current, Sea Chanters and the Cruisers. A flyover is also scheduled to be performed as well as a surprise visit by a familiar guest. Join in as the musical groups perform holiday classics like “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night” as well as pop hits like “Baby, it’s Cold Outside.” This family-friendly event is also budget-friendly too. Guests may reserve up to four tickets for free via the U.S. Navy Band website.

What better way to ring in the holiday season than caroling along with a well-known snowman? Join Frosty the Snowman, as well as a water-skiing Santa and jet-skiing Grinch, as they perform an exciting show along the Potomac. This unique Christmas Eve tradition also features a nightly holiday harbor lights show, carousel rides with Santa, free events at Peeps and Company, fireworks and holiday entertainment featuring local school choirs, performance groups and orchestras.
