When the weather outside is frightful, a warm toddy is just delightful. This winter (and especially on January 11, National Hot Toddy Day!), head to the following venues to sample their version of the heady libation. A historically British drink made with whiskey, warm water or milk, and sugar, these D.C. restaurants take the typical hot toddy to a new level.

The Mary Hot Toddy
1110 Vermont Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20005

www.lincolnrestaurant-dc.comWith a whimsical play on the word “merry,” the hot toddy is named after former President Abraham Lincoln’s wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. To make it, mixologist John Hogan at Lincoln first infuses bourbon with seasonal spices such as cinnamon, chamomile and vanilla, and then combines the bourbon with honey and warm water. The result is a sweet, warm beverage that smells and tastes like the holiday season. It is available throughout winter for $10.
