If you are a local boutique shopper, you have to be familiar with Lou Lou. Since it opened in 2004, the affordable accessories store has found extreme success with a number of stores in the area. Lou Lou was voted one of the “Best of 2012″ by Bethesda Magazine and “Best of NOVA 2012″ by Northern Virginia magazine. Although it doesn’t sell clothing and shoes, this is the place for the most stylish umbrellas. The handbag selection is up to par, and often restocked, so grab a decent-sized patent leather bag that is waterproof and sure to hold your umbrella.

This shoes and accessories store recently moved from the Georgetown Shops and is now called National Harbor home. Simply Soles is known for exceptional designer shoes that are hard to come by without shopping online or in a department store. The rain gear assortment at Simply Soles is comprised of fashionable rain boots, many of which double as snow boots, umbrellas and water-resistant hats. Simply Soles has an extensive online shop and also sends clients a mail-order catalog. Because of the designer names, much of the assortment is high-priced, but it’s important to evaluate the cost per wear and never pass up the sale section here.

The 16 Smithsonian museums are considered Washington, D.C., institutions and draw tourists from across the nation. The Smithsonian Store offers visitors an assortment of merchandise representative of the museums and zoo. There is a store in Union Station at the Amtrak concourse at gate G.
