A moderate Republican senator said Wednesday she’ll oppose the confirmation of Chuck Hagel to become President Barack Obama’s secretary of defense, while other GOP senators signaled they may delay a floor vote on the nomination unless the White House provides more information about the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee pushed ahead Monday with plans for a vote on Chuck Hagel’s nomination to be defense secretary despite Republican demands for more financial information from President Barack Obama’s choice.

Chuck Hagel’s nomination to be the next defense secretary remains on track despite Republican demands for additional information about his paid speeches and business dealings, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee said Thursday.

McCain Raises Possibility Of Hagel Filibuster

Republican Sen. John McCain, a sharp critic of Chuck Hagel’s nomination as defense secretary, said Monday he will not support a filibuster of President Barack Obama’s pick, even though he declined to say whether he intends to vote for confirmation.
