Senate GOP: Education Secretary Has ‘States Over A Barrel’ On Sweeping Rewrite Of No Child Left Behind
The Senate Education Committee on Wednesday finished its sweeping rewrite of No Child Left Behind that eases coast-to-coast requirements for schools and gives states greater independence to set their own goals.
The good intentions of No Child Left Behind have not yielded good policy, the Democratic chairman of the Senate education panel said Tuesday as lawmakers began to rewrite the sweeping legislation that governs all schools that receive federal tax dollars.
Twice burned, Republicans are treading carefully around Tea Party groups as they pursue a Senate majority that slipped through their fingers in 2010 and 2012.
