Pilots, Airline Fault Equipment In Asiana Crash

The pilots of Asiana Flight 214, which crashed in San Francisco in July, as well as the airline, are raising the possibility that a key device that controls the Boeing 777′s speed may have malfunctioned, an aviation expert familiar with the investigation into the crash said Tuesday.

Officials Probe Why Crashed Jet Flew Too Slow

Officials investigating a jetliner crash in San Francisco have determined that Asiana Airlines Flight 214 was traveling “significantly below” the target speed during its approach and that the crew tried to abort the landing just before it smashed onto the runway. What they don’t yet know is whether the pilot’s inexperience with this type of aircraft and at this airport played a role.

2 Dead in Trans-Pacific Flight That Crash Landed in San Francisco

After nearly 11 hours in the air, the passengers and crew aboard a jumbo jetliner traveling from Seoul to San Francisco were looking forward to a quick and uneventful landing as Asiana Airlines Flight 214 approached the airport from over San Francisco Bay.
