NL East champions
Matt Williams congratulated his Nationals on their NL East division championship in this victory speech, before reminding them they’ve got “miles to go before we sleep.”
Not to be outdone by the Nats winning their second NL East title in three years, Drew Storen earned his sixth straight save against the Braves Tuesday night.
Thanks to strong pitching from Gio Gonzalez and Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper’s burst of energy and Adam LaRoche’s slugging, the Washington Nationals won enough from April through September that even a loss on the first day of October could not stop them from clinching the NL East.
Nationals fans are still white knuckling after seeing their team get swept in Atlanta, and that anxiety only grew last night when the Braves closed the gap to 5 games. But have no fear. Very soon you’ll be able to celebrate something you’ve waited for 8 full seasons…a playoff berth.
