Judges Sue Social Security Over Case ‘Quotas’

Judges struggling to handle a surge of disability cases sometimes award benefits they might otherwise deny in order to clear cases faster so they can meet quotas imposed by the Social Security Administration, according to a lawsuit filed by the union representing the agency’s administrative law judges.

Judges Sue Social Security Administration Over Case ‘Quotas’

The union representing Social Security’s administrative law judges is suing the agency, claiming judges are forced to decide more than 500 cases a year, a standard that sometimes results in benefits that would otherwise be denied if judges had more time to review evidence.
