Tampa Bay Rays reliever Joel Peralta was suspended for eight games by Major League Baseball on Thursday for having pine tar on his glove Tuesday night against the Washington Nationals.
Holden and Danny were joined Thursday by fill-in Washington Nationals closer Tyler Clippard, who talked how unfortunate it was to see friend and former teammate Joel Peralta labeled ‘a cheater’ as well as how frustrating it was to get passed up for the closing role so many times here in Washington.
The Washington Nationals only have 10 players on its 40-man roster over the age of 30, with one of the most talented farm systems in the Majors to sustain their youth movement. And yet with teams like the Yankees, Boston, and Philly just hours to their north, the Nats need not look any further than in their own stadium, at their current opponents, to find their blueprint for success.
Mike Rizzo joined Holden and Danny, as he does every Wednesday at 11:30 p.m., to let the guys know how he felt about being swept at home by the red hot New York Yankees, where the team is in contract talks with their 1st-round pick, 17-year-old Lucas Giolito, and whether he had any prior knowledge of Joel Peralta of the Tampa Bay Rays being a cheater.
