Groundhog Day is coming up, but residents of the nation’s capital don’t have to turn to Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil to learn whether there’ll be six more weeks of winter.
Potomac Phil made his unflattering debut at the 1st annual Groundhog Day in Dupont. The group organizing the event was not able to secure a living, breathing groundhog, so stuffed was the only other option.
Washington D.C. is rivaling the traditional Groundhog Day experience to the North with it’s own ceremony to take place today in Dupont Circle. “Potomac Phil”, a stuffed groundhog will tell us winter’s fate.
