D.C. United (9-4-3, 30 points) remained in first place in the Eastern Conference after Chris Pontius knocked in a Branko Boskovic free kick in the 78th minute for a 1-0 away win on Saturday night at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. It was United’s fourth straight win.
DC United needed extra time to move past the Richmond Kickers on Tuesday night in the 99th edition of the US Open Cup. Marcelo Saragosa provided the game-winning goal in the 107th minute for the 2-1 victory.
