Alan Gross, the Maryland native who was released from a Cuban prison after being detained for five years, said “this is the best Hanukkah I’ll be celebrating in a long time” during his first statement on U.S. soil in five years.

Family: Gross Kept in Touch, Didn’t Grow Angry in Cuba

American Alan Gross has been released from a Cuban prison after five years, as part of an agreement that also includes the release of three Cubans jailed in the United States, senior U.S. officials said Wednesday.
