WASHINGTON — Whoa! The Washington Capitals came out red hot vs. the Montreal Canadiens in the team’s home opener and first game at the newly-renamed Capital One Arena in downtown D.C.

How hot? Try three goals in less than three minutes, with Alex Ovechkin tallying two. Here’s how it went down:

That gives Ovi five points through the first two games of the season. Grant Paulsen from 106.7 The Fan offered some context for the performance:

At the current pace, the Caps will score at least 60 goals on Saturday. That’s why stats like that don’t mean anything.

But the Caps are certainly off to a hot start.
