By now you’re probably looking for ways to beat the summer heat and cool down a bit. Swimming, splashing and taking the plunge into water are all great ways, and you can do so quite easily by visiting a waterpark. Fortunately there are many such venues within convenient range of the surrounding D.C. region. Here are a couple suggestions on where to go.
Ocean Dunes Waterpark

Here’s your chance to spend a day at the beach without going any further than Arlington. At Ocean Dunes you can enjoy a broad range of water wonders, including both a 170-foot covered slide and a 230-foot open slide. Other onsite features include a splash area for kids, a 500-gallon dumping bucket and so much more. You can also enjoy great food right on location under the shade of umbrellas. For those looking for something beyond aquatic adventure there is also a mini golf course located right next door along with batting cages.
Water Park At Bohrer Park

Located within the 57-acre expanse of Gaithersburg’s Bohrer Park you’ll find a wet wonderland. A popular pick for cooling off during the summer months, the Water Park at Bohrer features a range of splashing fun, including the famed 250-foot double water slide. Visitors 48 inches and taller can enjoy twice the fun, with the blue side offering more thrilling adventures while the white one delivers tamer, slower paces. Other features on location include a children’s splash pool, a custom aquatic play structure and various other pool pastimes. There are also shaded areas, chairs for lounging, an onsite snack bar and changing facilities

Discover Atlantis, literally, at this watery wonder located right onsite of Centreville’s own Bull Run Regional Park. Perfect for family-friendly summertime fun, the waterpark features an array of site features, like the tall 230-foot open slide and the enclosed 170-foot slide that submerges the rider into complete darkness. Smaller guests can enjoy kiddie slides and an island play area off the primary swimming pool as well as their own baby pool and sanded play area. Another crowning feature is the central aquatic play area, which features a 500-gallon dumping bucket, sprayers and various other open and closed slides. There is plenty of space for sitting, lounging and relaxing too, including Neptune’s Reef—the on-location snack bar where you can get all your favorite concessions.

Take the plunge at Splashdown Waterpark for the ultimate aquatic adventure. Take a ride on the four-story Pipeline Slide if you dare, or enjoy the cannon or twister slides. Take in unique park pastimes, like aquatic walks and other obstacle courses or take to the white sands of the beach area.
