WASHINGTON — The end of the Redskins season typically brings a brilliant wave of ingenuity from fans. This week has obviously been no different with their season’s abrupt end.
Already, we’ve heard from Bob in Haymarket, as he explained the Redskins need to cut ties with Kirk Cousins, for literally no other reason than “he’s not the guy.” While Bob offered no contingency plan and little evidence to support his theory, he did repeatedly state his firm belief that Cousins is not the guy. That’s the type of inventive thinking we can look forward to from Redskins callers all offseason.
Which brings us to Antoine in D.C., who called into 106.7 The Fan’s Chad Dukes vs. The World on Thursday, the day of defensive coordinator Joe Barry’s firing.
“I’m kind of glad that Joe Barry’s gone,” Antoine began his call. “But my take is this: What the Richmond Times reporter said about we was gonna fail in the playoffs with the defense, he can’t predict the future. I mean, that’s just like me saying my belief is that Kirk Cousins was going to mess it up because he’s not a big-game player.”
This sounds promising.
“Kirk Cousins needs to be franchised to the non-exclusive tag,” Antoine informed the masses. “And let him talk to whoever he wants, let us get those two first-round picks, build that defense up, go after Pierre, try to get DeSean, which I don’t think’s s gonna happen, and start Nate Sudfeld.”
Yeahhhhh. That’s the stuff.
“Nate Sudfeld has a way bigger upside than Kirk Cousins has,” Antoine elaborated. “Bigger arm, better pocket presence, his feet is way better and he just needs some coaching.”
Surely there’s a valid reason Antoine believes the Redskins’ sixth-round pick in 2016 can come in right away and outperform the guy who set franchise passing records in consecutive seasons. Right? Right?
“Everybody said Dak Prescott would not be what he is today,” Antoine said. “Everyone said the Dallas Cowboys’ season was over when Romo got hurt and we see what happened there with a rookie quarterback. We have a much better receiving corps than the Dallas Cowboys. I think Nate Sudfeld will do a much better job than Kirk Cousins did.”
