WASHINGTON — From the file of unfortunate verbal flubs, ESPN anchor Michael Eaves introduced a SportsCenter segment Wednesday by mistakenly saying the Redskins haven’t made the playoffs in “more than a decade.”

That, even casual NFL fans could assuredly tell you, is incorrect and rightful cause for a “well, actually” interruption. The Redskins have made the playoffs three times in the past decade, most recently last season (in other words, earlier this same year).

“You know, it may be hard to believe, but it’s been more than a decade since Washington made the playoffs in the NFL,” Eaves said. “If they’re gonna end that skid, the boys from D.C. will need some help from the NFC North.”

Eaves later clarified he meant to say the Redskins “have not won a playoff game this decade.”

That’s accurate, as the Redskins’ last playoff victory came during the 2005 season, against Tampa Bay in Jan. 2006.
