How to Vote in D.C., Maryland and Virginia

Election Day is upon us! Read on for important information about voting in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

Washington, D.C.

  • The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you’re in line at your polling place by 8 p.m., you’re allowed to vote.
  • Find your polling place here.
  • If it’s not your first time voting in D.C., you don’t need to provide any ID.
  • If you registered to vote by mail and it’s your first time voting in D.C., attach a copy of your ID to your mail ballot or bring one of the following to vote in person: a government-issued photo ID, utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and address.

Maryland

  • The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you’re in line at your polling place by 8 p.m., you’re allowed to vote.
  • Find your polling place here.
  • If it’s not your first time voting in Maryland, then you don’t need to provide any ID.
  • If it’s your first time voting in Maryland; you submitted your registration by mail; and you didn’t provide a copy of your Maryland driver’s license, state ID card, or a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or government document that shows your name and address when you registered, you may need to show one of those documents to vote.

Virginia

  • The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you’re in line at your polling place by 7 p.m., you’re allowed to vote.
  • Find your polling place here.
  • You’ll need to present a photo ID to vote. Find a list of acceptable forms of ID here.
