Redskins, Steelers Show Solidarity for U.S. Military During National Anthem

WASHINGTON — Redskins coach Jay Gruden said his team would “stand up and give respect” during the national anthem, in light of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s ongoing protests.

But they did him one better. Each organization sent a clear message of solidarity.

On Monday, ahead of Washington’s regular season opener, Redskins and Steelers players joined in unison, alongside members of the United States military, in helping stretch a field-length American flag across FedEx Field during the singing of the national anthem.

    It’s about damn time!

Kaepernick, et al, disgust me. Of course, they have the right to protest anything and everything they want to IN THEIR PERSONAL LIFE, not at their place of work. They just want to be on the big stage! Plus, what are they doing for ‘the cause’ in their personal lives before all of this? I haven’t read anything like this, but I’m guessing that for most it’s a big fat NOTHING. And the players with fists raised? They’re to young to understand what that means, or they’re merely trying to incite. Yes, people are noticing him and paying attention (what they want) but things aren’t always going as desired. The divide is only growing wider.

They disgust me. I say this as a proud US Navy veteran and a prouder American.

SO PROUD of my Steelers and the Redskins too for their show of unity and respect. SO SICK of Kaepernick, and the media giving him so much attention which is exactly what he wanted, and justifying his disrespectful behavior at every turn. There are better ways to express his dissatisfaction with the state of things, but that might not have gotten him the spotlight he knew the media would give him. Congratulations to those jerks, there are now High School kids following their disrespectful example!

This is how real professionals act. A shame there are so many hater like Kapernick that just want to tear down the country.

I expected more from the Steelers and they did not disappoint! Classy and professional team. Redskins were great. Their coach said the right things, too.
