WASHINGTON — After 15 years, professional sports teams have found countless ways to honor the victims, police, firefighters and military personnel who responded to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

On Sunday, the Washington Nationals found a new way to pay tribute, with a ceremonial maneuver never attempted on a Major League Baseball field. Here is a recap of #HeroesDay at Nationals Park:


The American service men and women even got in on one of baseball’s most beloved and hated traditions: the wave. No matter how you feel about the wave, this somehow seems more official:
