WASHINGTON — With all the hype over Nationals star/prospect/shortstop/second baseman/center fielder/speedster/hits machine Trea Turner, you’d think he’d have a nickname by now.

But he doesn’t. Not an official one, anyway.

The Syracuse Chiefs are trying to change that. Turner played 131 games at Syracuse, putting up a .306/.364/.457 slash line with 39 stolen bases on 43 attempts. He also smacked 9 home runs, 11 triples and 29 doubles.

His exceptional play there is part of why the organization is trying to give him an official nickname, via NCAA Tournament-style bracket.

Among some of the top candidates are: Trea Burner, Speed Treacer, T-Squared, All Day Trea, Bae Turner and Trea Hound. White Lightning is an especially strong entry, considering previous comments by his current manager.

“You’ve got a better chance of getting some speed with Latin and African-Americans,” Dusty Baker said at the Winter Meetings. “I’m not being racist. That’s just how it is.”

Tell us what you think.
