Champagne and Chipotle: A Max Scherzer Story

WASHINGTON — You’ve just thrown your first career no-hitter, only a few months into a seven-year, $210 million contract with a new team.

How do you celebrate?

If you answered with anything aside from “champagne and chipotle,” you are not Max Scherzer or his wife, Erica May-Scherzer.

The latter joined Grant and Danny on Tuesday afternoon, where she was asked about her husband’s famed love for the popular restaurant chain, which the Nationals pitcher has discussed several times on the show.

She responded in the affirmative, confirming her husband has a near-fanatical obsession with the burrito joint. And he’s not alone. She, too, loves to partake.

We’ll let her take it from here.

“Both of us are obsessed with Chipotle,” she says. “After his first no-hitter, we went and we got Chipotle. And we were literally eating Chipotle and having champagne on the couch. That’s how we celebrated.”

There’s more to the Chipotle love, as May-Scherzer reveals, including that the pair nearly invested in a franchise at one point.
