WASHINGTON — Have you ever wanted to play professional football in D.C.?

No, not like that. But you could have a shot to play for the city’s forthcoming Arena Football League team, the Washington Valor.

The team is holding open tryouts on Oct. 8. The time and location will be announced at a later date, but candidates will have the opportunity to perform standard Combine drills in front of head coach Dean Cokinos and his staff.

Early registration is available online for a $75 fee, or you can pay a $100 entry fee on the day of. Drills such as the 40-yard dash, short shuttle and broad jump will be run, as well as individual position and group-specific drills.

“Open tryouts give our staff a great look at many players who may not yet have had the opportunity to break through the evaluation process as well as give other players a second chance at the pro level,” Cokinos said, per the team release.

“We’re in a talent-rich region and hope to find some quality players who can contribute to our organization,” he added. “We are seeking talented, tough, hardworking players from the area and beyond and this will be the first chance for potential candidates to showcase their abilities.”

Maybe you could be the first star of the Washington Valor.
