Phelps Teaches Ledecky How to Wear All Her Medals at Once

WASHINGTON — We’ve all had this problem before, right?

You have too many Olympic medals that you just don’t know how to wear them all comfortably. Classic dilemma.

Well, at least Michael Phelps has had the problem before. The man of 23 gold medals (and three silver medals, and two bronze medals) has plenty of experience displaying many trophies around his neck at a time.

When SI wanted to get Phelps together with Katie Ledecky and Simone Biles — two athletes who are dominating their sports in Rio and seemed poised for lengthy, medal-filled careers — for a cover photo, Ledecky couldn’t quite figure out how to ideally display each of her many medals appropriately. Luckily, the most decorated Olympian ever was there to lend a hand to his fellow Marylander.

So now we all know: When Michael Phelps displays his many medals at once, he prefers the method of placing one on at a time, then tucking it behind the others. Will Ledecky adopt that strategy, or will she come up with her own method?

Only time will tell. Let’s check back with her in four years.
