WASHINGTON — D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier has announced she will retire from her post, which she’s held for the past 10 years, at the end of the month.
According to The Washington Post, Lanier has taken a position with the National Football League as head of league security.
When Lanier commandeered her post in Jan. 2007, she became the first female chief in the department’s history to do so, succeeding Charles Ramsey.
A press conference is expected later this afternoon to announce the news.
