WASHINGTON — This week, most clothing priced below $100 in Maryland is available tax-free.
The deal is part of Maryland’s annual tax-free week to help families with back-to-school shopping, and it eliminates the standard 6 percent sales tax on both clothing and shoes. It began Sunday and will run through this Saturday.
Only items less than $100 qualify, but there is no limit to the number of items a customer can purchase. Customers don’t need to be Maryland residents to qualify for the savings, they just need to shop in the state.
Last year, the average back-to-school spending for families in Maryland was $630; that number is expected to be $674 this year.
