WASHINGTON — Josh Norman has generated immense heat in his first weeks at Redskins training camp.
Norman has traded barbs through media with Giants receiver Odell Beckham, Jr., a personal foe he’s been asked about repeatedly over the past month, and inadvertently caused a commotion Monday by announcing his deal with Fox to be a regular NFL contributor this fall.
He has been dismissive of critics who believe he’s nothing more than a limited zone-coverage corner and incapable of guarding the NFC East’s elite receivers one-on-one. Last week, he confronted one of those critics — ESPN’s Max Kellerman — in person to correct the record.
All of this attention seems natural after Norman became the league’s highest paid corner this offseason, and he will have plenty of opportunities to prove his worth this season.
Speaking of… nature. Add the ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair to Norman’s growing list of skeptics. The WWE legend called Norman out while attending training camp for the Atlanta Falcons (against whom the Redskins will play their first preseason game on Thursday).
“This is the ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair at Falcons training camp with my main man, my brother, Julio Jones, the GREATEST WIDE RECEIVER IN THE NFL,” Flair shouted, cutting an impromptu wrestling promo on behalf of Jones. “That’s right, Josh Norman: THE BEST. Nobody catches up to Julio Jones. Woo! Go Falcons. Go Julio. Woooooooo! Woo!”
To be the man, you gotta beat the man.
