WASHINGTON — Sunday brought all kinds of strange interactions between the Nationals and the San Francisco fans.
After Ryan Zimmerman got hit by a pitch in the ninth inning, boos rained down on him throughout the stadium. Zimmerman responded by tipping his helmet to the fans.
But before all that happened, there was a much more lighthearted affair going on in the dugout. Or, at least in the immediate proximity of the dugout.
Sunday featured a Bruce Bochy gnome giveaway, and the little guys were spotted all over the ballpark. Jayson Werth evidently got tired of looking at a few that were right next to the Nationals dubgout. So he swiped one.
Werth held the innocent gnome hostage throughout the game, prompting the fans to move the remaining safe gnomes out of his reach.
The fans later created a poster petitioning for his return. No word yet on if Werth returned the gnome.
