WASHINGTON — If you were looking for something to do this outdoors weekend — and the weather should be great for doing so — look no further.
Thanks to REI, which is opening its flagship store in Fall 2016, dozens of events in the D.C. area are available for free this weekend, including Capital Bikeshare rentals. Many of the activities are no longer available, but the bike rentals remain free all weekend.
Another activity one can do for no charge in the District is rent a kayak or stand-up paddle board from the Key Bridge Boathouse and cruise down the Potomac River.
Or perhaps you’d rather go for a nice hike through C&O Canal National Historic Park and enjoy the sights and sounds of Great Falls. That, too, is free this weekend.
No registration is necessary for many of these activities, and with a hot, sunny weekend expected, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take advantage of the free fun.
