Nats Celebrate Independence from Twitter Trolling

WASHINGTON — There are many theories for fan interaction on social media, and the Washington Nationals are generally conservative with how they respond to trolls and attacks.

On the 4th of July, however, they celebrated an independence from Twitter trolls, professionally putting one sour Mets fan in his place. Here was their interaction:

Boom! Short, sweet, and informative.

The fan complained about the team’s rare 11:05 a.m. start on a Monday, which means that stats for the game don’t count towards this week’s fantasy numbers. As the Nats’ official Twitter account pointed out, schedules were announced on January 19, likely before this fan’s fantasy draft.

The Nats offered another tweet later in the game to explain the unusual start time:

Whether or not that’s true, it’s nice to tie the moment, the game and the holiday back to the armed forces. There was also a much friendlier Twitter interaction with this fan, earning a rare retweet:

Happy 4th of July to all Washington sports fans, wherever you may be!
