WASHINGTON — The greater Washington, D.C. region will be well represented in March Madness this year, as the University of Maryland, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Hampton University will each dance in March Madness.

Virginia earned a No. 1 overall seed, despite a loss to UNC in the ACC Championship game. They will host fellow commonwealth team Hampton in the first round, a game that will take place on Thursday, March 17 at approximately 3 p.m. on truTV.

Maryland earned a No. 5 seed, following a season of inconsistent performance that ended with a Big Ten tournament loss to Michigan State. They will host No. 12 South Dakota State in the first round, a game that will take place on Friday, March 18 at approximately 4:30 p.m. on TBS.

VCU lost to St. Joseph’s in the A-10 championship game, claiming a No. 10 seed. They will take on Oregon State in the first round, a game that will take place on Friday, March 18 at 1 p.m. on TNT.

Hampton is the only conference championship team in the tournament, winning the MEAC over South Carolina State. They face a tremendous uphill battle against Virginia, with game details listed above.
