WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Hillary Clinton jokes that it “has crossed my mind” on having former President Bill Clinton be her running mate.
In an interview with Extra, the Democratic presidential candidate was asked by Mario Lopez if she considered having her husband be her vice president.
“He would be good, but he’s not eligible under the Constitution,” she said. “He has served his two terms and I think the argument would be as vice president it would not be possible for him to ever succeed to the position – at least that’s what I’ve been told.”
Despite a big fundraising advantage and a slew of endorsements from party leaders, Clinton’s standing with voters has slipped — multiple polls show a majority of Americans don’t find her honest and trustworthy.
A CBS News Battleground Tracker poll reveals Clinton trails Sen. Bernie Sanders 33 to 43 percent in Iowa and 30 to 52 percent in New Hampshire.
