Water Main Break Floods King St. in Alexandria

UPDATED: July 27, 2015 11:40 a.m.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A water main break in Alexandria closed King Street from Interstate 395 to Park Center Drive Monday morning.

WNEW’s PJ Elliott was on the scene where the water flooded the area.

Crews are working to repair the break.

It happened on an 8” main between 30th Street and Park Center Drive on King Street. Virginia American Water says there is no known cause, but it is likely due to how old the main is.

One westbound lane and two eastbound lanes are open on King St.

“We do not believe any customers located in the vicinity will be impacted – meaning, we don’t believe anyone will be without water because this area is fed from other valves, not impacted by the break,” said Samantha Villegas, a spokesperson for Virginia American Water.

Villegas says the repair should be finished by afternoon rush, but may take longer if crews have to hand dig the excavation.
