Fire Officials Investigate Explosion at Md. Home

UPDATED: Jan. 15, 2015 1:32 p.m.

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Fire officials say a leaking propane heating system is the cause of an explosion at a home in Deale.

Anne Arundel County firefighters responded to the 600 block of Marshall Road for a two-alarm fire at a two-story home around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Russ Davies says there was an explosion.

55 firefighters from Anne Arundel, Prince George’s and Calvert County, as well as Annapolis City, responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control in about one hour.

Members of the Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit determined the fire to be accidental and the cause is believed to be a leaking
propane heating system used in the construction process. Damages are estimated at approximately $175,000.

The house under construction was being built in replacement of a house that was destroyed by fire on March 20, killing the lone occupant of the home.

Officials say there were no reported injuries.
