Mayor Gray Approves New D.C. Soccer Stadium Deal

WASHINGTON (WNEW) — The D.C. Council approved it and on Tuesday the mayor signed off on it, and pretty soon Buzzard Point will be getting a new soccer stadium.

With a group of D.C. United fans behind him, Mayor Vincent Gray proclaimed it “official,” saying the city is going to have a new soccer stadium.

“There are days where we all were ready to kick the can down the road or kick the ball down the road or whatever the case may be,” Mayor Gray said.

But the mayor and the council kept going, and Council Chairman Phil Mendelson says building that stadium in Buzzard Point will be a part of Mayor Gray’s legacy.

“It’s unfortunate that we passed the legislation this month but we won’t see the stadium actually open for a couple of years,” Mendelson said.
