LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Getting home safely on Halloween night can be a challenge. That’s why one D.C. non-profit is offering a free ride service for women and D.C.’s LGBT community.

Between midnight to 3 a.m. Saturday, RightRides Washington, D.C. will pick up passengers in one of three vehicles provided by Zipcar.

After recent reports of assaults by cab or Uber drivers, Renee Davidson with Collection Action for Safe Spaces says there’s a demand for this service.

For now, RightRides will operate only on holidays such as Halloween, but the group is taking donations to offer the service each weekend.

Donated money will cover insurance, background checks for drivers and iPhones for dispatch and GPS.

Pick-ups will be available in the central D.C. –from Georgetown to Trinidad, Adams Morgan to Brookland. MD, All-News 99-1.
