COTTAGE CITY, Md. (WNEW) — Police say they found a man dead on a section of the Anacostia River Trail early Saturday morning.

Maryland-National Park Police officers say they responded to the trail in Cottage City around 6:35 a.m. Saturday where they found the man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

He has been identified as 20-year-old Everett Robert Brown, of Brentwood.

Prince George’s County Police and Park Police launched a joint investigation.

Police canvassed neighborhoods and went door-to-door near the trail Sunday afternoon seeking additional information.

The suspect, or suspects, and motive were not immediately known.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925. An up to $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
