WASHINGTON (WNEW) — Guests staying at the Marriott Wardman Park in Northwest spent the night in the parking lot after multiple fires went off in the stairwells early Saturday morning.

An alarm went off around 1 a.m., telling guests to evacuate. Guests tell WNEW’s Heather Curtis that at first they thought it was a false alarm, but then they smelled smoke.

Some guests were also able to crash in ballrooms and other areas of the hotel.

A conference was being held at the hotel at the time for the American Political Science Association meeting.

Guests were allowed back into the hotel around 8 a.m. There were no reported injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
