LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A 14-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with the sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl, police say.
Falls Church Police say they responded to Cherry Hill Park, in the 300 block of Park Avenue, around 9:30 p.m. on Friday. An 8-year-old girl told police she was physically and sexually assaulted by the 14-year-old boy on two occasions that night.
The first incident was interrupted by an adult, and police say he then ran away. Shortly after, he returned and assaulted the girl again.
The 8-year-old called out and nearby adults approached the teenager. He ran away again, but police say was pointed out to officers.
the 14-year-old boy is charged with two counts of abduction, one count of sexual assault, and one count of simple assault. He is being held in a juvenile detention facility.
The incident occurred during a community event in the park. “This is an isolated event,” said Capt. Richard Campbell. “We thank the adults who acted on a situation that seemed suspicious.”
