LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — The University of Maryland is adding a brand new videoboard to the newly-named Xfinity Center.
The new, rectangular board will replace the old, octagonal one hanging over center court. It will feature four panels — two measuring 12.5 feet high and 33 feet wide, and the other two measuring 9 feet high and 16.5 feet wide.
The board will be capable of “showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays and can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and sponsor advertisements,” according to a athletics department press release.
Four other message boards will be installed at the corners of the arena.
The new boards “will incorporate excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility to keep all Terp fans immersed in the gameday action.”
The university’s athletic department Tweeted out before-and-after photos of the arena’s new and old boards.
